Overview

This guide covers how to process physical advertising data using the Advanced module: from aligning on client requirements to running the analysis template, exporting results to the platform, and reviewing data quality.

Key use cases

  • Processing physical advertising data (print, display, etc.) for a reporting year

  • Choosing the right end-of-life methodology for print materials

  • Rebaselining historical data with the latest emission factors

1. Align with client requirements

Before processing, check whether the client has specific requests that may affect the analysis.

2. Process the data

⚠️ If working on a multi-year account, check the Rebaselining section below before starting.
This module uses the Advanced module only. Processing is largely automated via the data analysis template.
Follow these steps:

  1. Copy the URL of the client's data collection file (must be saved as a Google Sheet, not.xlsx) into any of the 3 processing tabs (highlighted in orange).

  2. Data is imported automatically into the correct tab. Make sure to set the right language (EN or FR) in each processing tab.

  3. For print materials, choose the end-of-life methodology to apply:

    • Accounting for end-of-life or not

    • GHG Protocol, UK, or BEGES methodology

  1. Go to the "To Module" tab, download the table as a CSV, and upload it to the Physical Advertising module in Greenly.

  2. Verify that the total imported matches the total emissions shown in the module. ⚠️ If an error occurs during import, check that the data in the collection template matches the expected format.

Rebaselining

Rebaselining applies the latest emission factors to the base year to enable year-on-year comparisons.
Before starting:

  • Check if a similar analysis exists for previous years.

  • Confirm with the deal owner / client whether rebaselining is planned.

  • Ensure module consistency across years. ⚠️ Do not proceed with rebaselining without aligning with the deal owner/client on specifics (custom EFs, EF exclusions, PC overrides, etc.)
Manual rebaselining: Use only when the dataset to rebaseline is very small. Rerun the full process using the latest version of the analysis template.

3. Review the data

After uploading, go to the "2. Review" section:

  • Duplicate expenses: Review items flagged as potential duplicates (shown as XX [TO UPDATE]). Flag those linked to activity data already uploaded in the module.

  • Data Quality checks: Review any activity data that deviates from expectations. If no checks appear, everything is valid. Otherwise, review and correct as needed.

FAQs

The client can't provide the total number of views for their ad — what do we do? Greenly does not provide view count estimates at this time. Ask the client to provide their own estimate — a common approach is to base it on the price paid for the advertising placement.
