Overview

Once you've found the impact, risk or opportunity (IRO) you want to assess, click on it to open its scoring form. Every IRO is scored on a set of dimensions that depend on its type, and moves through a clear status lifecycle from first answer to final validation.

Key benefits / use cases

  • Score each IRO with guided, predefined answer choices instead of free-form numbers

  • Track exactly who owns and who validates each score, with a clear status at every stage

  • Keep a justification, supporting evidence, and a full history for every scoring decision

Dimensions used for scoring

The dimensions you score depend on the IRO's type:

  • Risks and opportunities(financial materiality) are scored on Severity(or Magnitude) and Likelihood.

  • Negative impacts are scored on Scale,Scope,Irremediability, and Likelihood.

  • Positive impacts are scored on Scale,Scope, and Likelihood.
    Here's what each dimension means:

  • Severity / Magnitude: how serious the financial consequence of a risk or opportunity would be.

  • Scale: how grave the impact is.

  • Scope: how widespread the impact is, for example how many people or how much of the environment is affected.

  • Irremediability: how difficult it would be to remedy or reverse the impact.

  • Likelihood: how probable it is that the risk, opportunity or impact materializes.

Scoring a dimension

Each dimension is scored using a fixed scale of predefined answer choices, so you're always picking from a defined option rather than entering a free number. For example, Likelihood uses a 7-step scale, from About 1% (Exceptionally Unlikely) to 100% (Current/Actual).
Select the option that best matches your situation for each dimension shown. Greenly then calculates the IRO's overall materiality score automatically based on your selections, so you never need to do the calculation yourself.

Status lifecycle

Each IRO's status reflects how far it is in the scoring process:

  • Not started: no dimension has been answered yet.

  • In progress: at least one dimension has an answer selected, but the IRO hasn't been marked complete.

  • Completed: all dimensions are answered and you've clicked Mark as completed.

  • Validated: a validator has reviewed the completed IRO and clicked Validate.
If a validator isn't satisfied with a completed IRO, they can send it back with Changes requested instead of validating it, which reopens it for the owner to revise.
Each IRO shows its progress as a simple count (for example, 3/4 dimensions answered), so you always know how much is left.

Owner, Validator, and bulk actions

Every IRO has an Owner, the person responsible for scoring it, and a Validator, the person responsible for reviewing and approving the score. This separation keeps scoring and review as two distinct steps.
To manage several IROs at once, use the bulk edit view to assign an owner, validator, contributors, or due date to multiple IROs in one action. You can also use bulk edit to mark several IROs as not applicable in one go, instead of doing it one by one.

Justification, evidence, and history

At the bottom of each IRO's scoring form, you'll find three sections to document your work:

  • Justification: explain the reasoning behind your answer. Use it to note which document you relied on, the relevant page number, or any assumptions you made.

  • Add an evidence: attach a supporting file (CSV, PDF, JPG, PNG, XLSX, DOCX, PPTX, XLS, XLSM, or TXT, up to 100MB). You can reference specific pages within the file and mark it for use as AI context.

  • History: an automatic log of every change made to the IRO, with the user and timestamp for each entry.

FAQs

Why do I only see two dimensions for some IROs and four for others?

The dimensions shown depend on the IRO's type. Risks and opportunities use Severity and Likelihood. Negative impacts add Scale, Scope, and Irremediability. Positive impacts use Scale, Scope, and Likelihood.

Do I need to calculate the materiality score myself?

No. Once you've selected an answer for each dimension, Greenly calculates the score automatically.

Can I change my answer after marking an IRO as completed?

Yes, as long as it hasn't been validated. If it has, ask the validator to request changes so you can revise it.

What's the difference between the Owner and the Validator?

The Owner scores the IRO. The Validator reviews the completed score and either validates it or requests changes.

Can I upload more than one piece of evidence per IRO?

Yes, you can attach multiple supporting files.
