1. What is the Waste module for?
The Waste module calculates the carbon footprint associated with treating the waste generated by your activity over the period studied (generally your financial year / the year of your GHG Report).
It relies on activity data (waste quantities) combined with emission factors based on the type of waste and/or the treatment channel. It is especially useful for better estimating an often-underestimated area (operational emissions / Scope 3), meeting reporting and traceability requirements (audits, tenders, etc.), and prioritizing reduction actions (prevention, sorting, choice of treatment channels) with a potential impact on costs.
2. Which data should be included in your data collection file?
⚠️ To be processed by Greenly, the data provided must be in French 🇫🇷 or English 🇬🇧
You can find your module’s data collection file by clicking on the module > Tab “2. Data collection” > “Bulk import - via template”
🎯 The data collection file contains two type of data: mandatory and optional data
Mandatory data: It is the minimum necessary data to calculate the amount of CO2e related to this regulatory entry’s activities → Without it, no emissions can be computed.
Optional data: any additional data will increase the quality and granularity of the analysis, and provide you various areas of analysis.
Depending on the type of module, the requested data may differ:Lightweight module

- Treatment type (should be selected from the dropdown menu)
- Quantity (should match to the unit selected next)
- Unit (kg, mt or Short ton (or m3 only for ‘Waste water and sludges’)

- Waste code
- Entity
- Business unit
- Country
- Site name
- supplier
2. How to upload your data to the Greenly platform?
To upload your data, click on the corresponding task on the Progress page or go to Data > Data Collection > Waste.
1/ Use the Greenly template to upload your data. Click on "Bulk import". The template is downloaded in the same language as the platform. When using it, we ask you to fill the English one with English data and the French one with French data. You can always download the other language on the READ ME page of the template.
Import your data in the section “Upload file”. You can also provide additional files to prove or support the data you’re submitting—for traceability and auditability, in the section “File Information (optional)”. 2/For advanced module: Once your data uploaded, click on**“Submit for analysis”**. An analyst will review it and complete the module.
For lightweight module: Once your data uploaded, the emissions will be calculated automatically.
3. Frequent errors in data format
Make sure to fill the mandatory columns
Make sure to used only the options available in the dropdowns for example for waste type.
⚠️ The dropdown menu links to our Emission Factors Database. Any manually inputted data will not match our EFs, so no calculations can be performed.
Don’t forget to precise the unit.
4. Review your data and read your results
Once you have uploaded your data, you can flag the expenses related to the module to avoid double counting and access your results. To do so, please read the related article.
