Overview
This article explains how to fill in the data collection file for the End-of-life of sold products module. It covers what data is required depending on your module tier (Lightweight or Advanced), how to upload it to the Greenly platform, and how to avoid common data format errors.
Key benefits / use cases
Understand exactly which fields are mandatory vs. optional before starting data collection
Choose the right import method (single entry or bulk template) for your workflow
Avoid common errors that block data processing
Know how to review results and handle double-counting
1. What data should be included in your data collection file?
The End-of-Life Treatment of Sold Products module is essential for companies aiming to assess and report the GHG emissions associated with the disposal and treatment of their products once they reach the end of their life cycle. It ensures that your environmental reporting covers the complete life cycle of your products, providing a more comprehensive view of their total impact.
The temporal scope of the study is the financial year of your GHG Report.
⚠️ Data provided must be in French 🇫🇷 or English 🇬🇧 to be processed by Greenly.
You can find the data collection file by clicking on the module > Tab "Data collection" > "Bulk import - via template".
What data do you need to gather?
Three types of information are needed to complete this module:
Nature and quantity of waste — identify and quantify the waste generated by your sold products. This determines the scope of emissions related to product disposal.
Material composition (for complex products) — for products made of multiple materials, estimate the quantity of each material in a single product. Different materials may have different disposal processes and associated GHG emissions.
End-of-life treatment type — GHG emissions differ depending on whether a product is recycled, landfilled, or incinerated. If you don't have specific data, use the "Average end-of-life" option to estimate emissions.
The file contains two types of fields: mandatory and optional.Mandatory data: the minimum required to calculate CO2e emissions. Without it, no emissions can be computed.
Optional data: additional data that increases the quality and granularity of the analysis.Lightweight module
Data type
Fields
Mandatory
Weight of waste per category
**Advanced module**
Data type
Fields
Mandatory
Weight, Waste type, Treatment type, Unit (kg or mt only)
Optional
Name, Comment, Date, Supplier
2. How to complete the template? 1.Select the appropriate section based on your available data (plastic, metal, etc.)
Click the "+ Add Row" button 3.Select the "Type" of end-of-life treatment (incineration, landfill, etc.). Chose "Average end-of-life" if you don't have any additional information.
Enter the quantity of waste generated by the end-of-life of your sold products. You must enter a value in metric tons (mt) Use Case Example
French Press: A company manufactures a French press made of glass and plastic. The company estimates that 70% of the product's weight is glass and 30% is plastic. Therefore, for 1 ton of products sold, they generate 700 kg of glass waste and 300 kg of plastic waste. This detailed breakdown allows the company to accurately assess the GHG emissions from disposing of these materials at the end of the product's life.
3. How to upload your data to the Greenly platform?
To upload your data, click on the corresponding task on the Progress page, or go to Data > Data Collection > End-of-life of sold products.
You have two options:
Single import — enter data manually directly on the platform.
Bulk import— download and fill in the template. The template downloads in your platform language. Fill the English template with English data, and the French template with French data. You can download the other language version from the READ ME tab of the template.
Make sure all mandatory fields (blue columns) are filled before importing. At least one complete group of blue columns is required.
Once the file is ready, upload it in the "Upload file" section. You can also attach supporting documents for traceability and auditability in the**"File Information (optional)"** section.
After uploading, review your data and complete the module. If you don't have the necessary information, click "Skip" at the top right of the page.
4. Frequent errors in data format
Advanced module- Column 1: Waste Type
Waste type not in the valid values
Column 2: Unit
Forgot to precise if tons are metric or short
Unit in m3, L, or UNIT cannot be calculated or with hypotheses to see with the client
Column 3: Treatment type
Left unfilled
5. Review your data and check your results
Once your data is uploaded, you can flag expenses related to this module to avoid double-counting and access your results. See the related article: Review your data and check double counting.
