Overview

This article guides users through the Physical Advertising module's data collection process. It covers what campaign-level data to gather depending on the advertising format (Print, DOOH, TV, or Radio), how to upload it via bulk import, and how to avoid a common formatting mistake with TV and Radio spot counts.

Key benefits / use cases

  • Accurately calculate the GHG emissions generated by your physical advertising campaigns

  • Know exactly which fields are required per advertising format

  • Use estimated spot counts when exact figures are unavailable (DOOH, TV, Radio)

  • Submit data for analyst review with full traceability and auditability

1. What data should be included in your data collection file?

The Physical Advertising module calculates the impact of your company's physical advertising activities during the studied year. The temporal scope of the study is the financial year of your GHG report.
⚠️ Data provided must be in French 🇫🇷 or English 🇬🇧 to be processed by Greenly.
You can find the data collection file by clicking on the module > Tab "2. Data collection">"Bulk import - via template".
Required data varies by advertising format. There are 3 templates for each type of physical advertising: print, DOOH and TV/Radio.

Print

  • Campaign name

  • Format (size, and whether it is outdoor or in a magazine/newspaper)

  • Number of prints

  • For magazine/newspaper format only:

  • Whether the campaign was in colour or black and white

  • Whether the print was recto-verso

DOOH (Digital Out-of-Home)

  • Campaign name

  • Total number of spots

  • Duration of one spot (in seconds)

  • Region of diffusion

TV and Radio

  • Campaign name

  • Type (TV or Radio)

  • Total number of spots

  • Duration of one spot (in seconds)

  • Region of diffusion
💡 For DOOH, TV, and Radio campaigns, an estimated total number of spots is accepted if you do not have the exact figure (for example, an estimate based on your campaign budget).

2. How to upload your data to the Greenly platform?

To upload your data, click on the corresponding task on the Progress page, or navigate to Data > Data Collection > Physical Advertising.

  1. Data must be imported using Greenly's template. Click "Bulk import" to download it. The template downloads in your platform language. Fill the English template with English data and the French template with French data. You can download the other language version from the READ ME tab of the template.

Import your file in the "Upload file" section. You can also attach supporting documents for traceability and auditability in the**"File Information (optional)"** section.

  2. Once uploaded, click "Submit for analysis". A Greenly analyst will review the data and complete the module.
If you do not have the necessary information to complete this module, click "Skip" at the top right of the page.

3. Frequent errors in data format

TV and Radio — spot count: The total number of spots must reflect the total diffusion count across all viewers, not the number of times the ad is broadcast on a single channel. For example, if an ad airs 2 times per hour on a channel with 1, 000, 000 viewers, the correct figure to enter is the total number of spots across all broadcasts — not 2.

4. Review your data and read your results

Once you have uploaded your data, you can flag expenses related to this module to avoid double counting and access your results. Read the related article: Review your data and check double counting.
The Results page offers a clear and detailed view of the emissions from the physical advertising. You will be able to filter by format, or others tags you would have added to the data collection template.
