Overview
The IT inventory module covers emissions from the manufacture of IT equipment. Usage-related emissions are excluded. Each item is described by its type and, optionally, brand and model, then matched to a pre-selected emission factor.
Key use cases
Accounting for the manufacturing impact of a company's IT equipment
Applying consistent amortisation rules under BEGES-R and GHG Protocol
Matching equipment to the closest available emission factor
What this module covers
The module covers emissions from the manufacture of IT equipment. Usage-related emissions are excluded.
BEGES-R: include all IT equipment acquired within the three years before the end of the assessment period. Emissions are amortised over 3 years.
GHG Protocol: include only IT equipment purchased during the reporting year.
For each item, the user selects a type of equipment (for example Laptop) and, optionally, the brand (for example Dell) and the model.
How emission factors are matched
For every combination of type, brand and model, an emission factor has been pre-selected. This EF is the same for all countries and years. The equipment list is matched with our database using an exact match, or the closest available match.
Emission factor sources
The emission factors are an aggregation of a large list of manufacturers' life-cycle assessments.
FAQs
Does this module include the electricity used to run the equipment?
No. Only manufacturing emissions are covered; usage-related emissions are excluded.
What if my exact model is not in the database?
The item is matched to the closest available emission factor. Providing the brand and model improves the match.
Does the emission factor change by country or year?
No. The EF is pre-selected per type, brand and model combination, and is the same across countries and years.
