You've received an email inviting you to respond to Greenly's supplier questionnaire, and you want to understand why and the process step by step. We've prepared this guide to make your experience easier: here's how you can sign up and answer the questionnaire. We couldn't be happier to guide you through this Greenly journey!
Understand why your client asks suppliers to complete a climate questionnaire.
Step 1: Create your Greenly account
Before you can answer the questionnaire, you'll need to create a Greenly account, according to the instructions you've received in your invitation email.
You will need to fill in your company information and identification number among the list offered. If you do not have an identification number, you will unfortunately not be able to answer this questionnaire.
Step 2: Answer the questionnaire
The content of the supplier questionnaire is divided into eight sections, each of which is essential for evaluating your carbon footprint and sustainable practices.
General Information
This first section captures the supplier's identity: identification number (SIRET, VAT, SIREN, etc.), industry, number of employees and website. It also asks whether the company's mission is to offer products or services with lower emissions than the market average, or to reduce the emissions of other companies.
GHG Assessment
This part checks whether a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) assessment has already been carried out, then collects its details: date, methodology used (ADEME or GHG Protocol) and emissions broken down by scope 1, 2 and 3. It also gathers the turnover for the reference year, any use of a third party or audit, the publication of results (CDP, public databases), as well as the intention to carry out an assessment in the coming year.
Climate Commitments
This section covers the existence of quantified emission reduction targets (scopes 1 and 2), with, for each target, the type of reduction, the reference year, the target year, the percentage aimed for and the share of emissions covered. It also asks about Science Based Targets objectives and about the public communication of these commitments.
Carbon Contribution
This part seeks to determine whether the supplier finances projects to reduce or sequester emissions, and what share of its emissions (scopes 1, 2 and 3) is covered. It also asks whether these projects are certified and under which certification.
Employee Commitments
This section assesses climate awareness initiatives carried out internally: presenting the carbon footprint to teams, running workshops (such as a climate fresk) and the proportion of staff trained. It also leaves room to describe other internal initiatives on these topics.
Action Plan
This part covers sustainability governance, supplier engagement, the integration of climate into remuneration schemes and external watch with experts. It also includes operational sub-sections that appear depending on the supplier's industry: travel, IT equipment and vehicle fleet, building energy, digital (cloud, servers, websites), purchases of services and goods, food and drinks, freight, production inputs, industrial energy, machinery and event organization.
Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)
This section asks whether life cycle analyses have been carried out on one or more products or services, with, for each, the scope, methodology and emissions by phase (extraction, manufacturing, distribution). It also asks about LCAs planned for the future and the percentage of the product range covered.
CSRD
This final part reviews the CSRD sustainability topics: climate change, pollution, water and marine resources, biodiversity, resource use and circular economy, own workforce, workforce in the value chain, affected communities, consumers and end-users, and governance. For each topic deemed relevant, the supplier selects the key sub-topics in terms of impacts, risks and opportunities.
To view the complete list of questions, you can refer to this document. Each question is accompanied by a comment explaining its purpose.
Step 3: Discover your score
After completing the supplier questionnaire, you will receive a score ranging from A+ to E, reflecting your environmental performance. This allows both your customer and yourself to better understand where you stand in terms of your sustainability goals and how to reduce your carbon emissions.
Additionally, you may receive a Greenly certificate in recognition of your environmental efforts. You can refer to our dedicated article on medals and certificates to learn more about these rewards and how they can enhance your commitment to sustainability.Note:
You can save your answers and take the questionnaire again later.
You can invite colleagues to participate. You have two options to do so: either give the contact details of a colleague more likely to have the answers under section 1. Profile Information and click on "Invite member", or share the questionnaire in PDF format with your colleagues and use the collected information to finish filling it in.
